The Lawn Process Pre Winter Image

PRE WINTER

NOVEMBER 17th – DECEMBER 1, BEFORE THANKSGIVING

Get this done before the first big snowfall!

Some additional things that can be done at this time

  • Things are winding down; we want to try to help snow mold issues with the fungicide application as well as mowing as low as possible for the last mow of the year.
  • Try to keep the lawn clear of debris when possible throughout the winter. Debris left on the lawn will encourage bad things to grow.

APPLICATIONS

Apply all products safely on the same day!

  • Apply Milorganite (11.5 setting on Scott’s EdgeGuard) or other Organic fertilizer
  • Apply Fungicide at bag recommended setting
    • You may need to water in the fungicide
  • Spray with lawn safe selective herbicide or pull.
  • Optional N-EXT Application
    • No soil condition steps here

MOWING AND IRRIGATION

  • 3.5 – 4” until the last mow. The last mow of the season should be 1.5 – 2”. As short as you can go without scalping the yard (and bag this mow). You will know when it will be the last mow because the grass will have stopped growing.
    • Keep the lawn clean throughout the winter by raking up debris (of course only if its clear of snow)
  • Sprinklers need to be winterized
